August Long Weekend 2013 (2-5) Heart Lake
As an alternate option to the Kinuseo Falls trip (which nobody seems to be too interested in yet) Shayne and I have come up with the idea to base camp at Heart Lake in the Pine Pass, and then do some exploration in the area between the Pine River and Williston Lake. The site at Heart Lake is a Forestry campsite that is well maintained and popular with typical camp ground amenities with outhouses probably being the most popular feature. The lake is warm enough for swimming, and has a nice grass beach and a few floating swim docks. Heart Lake is approx. 2.5 hours from PG (231Km) with the closest fuel service being at Mackenzie Junction (approx. 40kms south)
According the google maps, the access to the exploration area is about 15km from the Heart Lake camp ground on the old Moberly Lake access road. Close enough to poke down a few roads and see some new ground.
Any interest?

Depends on what day. I am working in camp right now so it kinda makes things interesting to plan ahead of time

A lot of interest so far, with 3-4 trucks and families wanting to go. It appears that this will be the plan for the Aug. long weekend.

Rosie and I are going to head up Thursday evening after she gets off work. Between the two of us, we can probably save enough camp sites before it starts to fill up on Friday...

Well, I'm excited to get away for a few days of light wheeling in the Canyon and some excellent camping. I'll be loading the camper up in the next few days, and swapping some tires on the truck and getting everything ready!

It was a great weekend! We explored some new area, had some carnage, had some great moments around the campfire and most importantly, had fun! More to come...
Re: August Long Weekend 2013 (2-5) Heart Lake
The carnage, surprisingly enough, wasn't truck related. During a rain storm of biblical proportions, my 47 year old Alaskan pop-up camper decided it would be an excellent time to shed one of its entry doors. Dry rot has apparently taken hold of the upper Dutch door frame causing all of the screws to vacate the door post all at the same time. This created quite an issue in a fly and hornet infested camp ground that needed immediate attention. Tyler and I concocted a repair strategy and with some supplies from the Home Hardware in Chetwynd (a whole 80km away) we reattached the door using some much larger screws and half a tube of PL9000 construction adhesive. We filled the cavity inside the tin covered door post with the construction adhesive, and then drove the larger screws through the tin and into the bonding agent. A thin strip of the PL9000 was also used to help bond the door hinge to the tin siding. Bingo! the door was reattached. It's never been so "solid" feeling and has worked like a charm ever since...
That was the extent of our carnage on the whole trip...

That tea towel has had a stern talking too and will not be sexually harassing me anymore...
