Re: george mnt 2
Maybe this can help.......
The second intersection can be hard to find if there is no one going up there. There used to be some ribbon there. The best i can recall for you is that there is a ditch right away off the intersection. You know your on the right road because there will a LOT of deactivation ditches. Also before the first switchback there is a deactivation ditch that drops real hard to the right and can catch you off guard. Sometimes a spotter can help there.
It has been about seven years since i was up there last and it was thick with alder then. I can imagine it would be miserable up there now. A few trucks should clear it out though.

Re: george mnt 2
I believe that Ride is correct. The ditch right away off the second intersection jives with my hazy memory of the trail head... Its been such a long time, that I honestly am having a difficult time describing it. I'd probably have a better reference point if I was actually there. Maybe Ride could do his google map trick again, and show both the upper and lower road...
Re: george mnt 2
if this is the only way i would like to brush it out, if not this trail will be lost so we should try to save it. couple of chain saws and some excersice is all we need. if no one is interested me and the wife will try to make it happen I guess.

I don't know of any other way up there than the one on the map. I do remember that just as you hit the cut there is a road going to the left and it will follow the lower edge of the clearcut and go to the top of George. the other way was the main road through to the cut where there is a skid trail that drops down to the left and connects to the lower clearcut edge road going to the top. As i recall there is a machine made puddle you will see on the right hand side of the raod and the skid trail is just past there on the left. The skid trail was kinda sketchy the last time i was up there so a quick scout of the trail may be in order.
I remember years ago that main road up there was brushy as hell but a few trips up there opened it up. As you say though some saws would help big time. Maybe if there is some seats open and i have some time i can tag along. It would be nice to get up tehre again.
If you have google earth, enter the following co-ordinates: 53 degrees 40'43.12" N 122 degrees 18'40.13" W This will take you to the clearcut you go through and it will show all the ways to the top of the mountain It even shows the skid trail to the bottom.

As I recall Brian, you rode shotgun with me on the last trip up there. That was the last time I was there; got to be 8 years or so now...
The skid trail from the cut to the edge road was sketchy at best. I remember we couldn't get back up the skid trail on the way out, and had to fight our way down the edge road falling into holes and climbing stumps all the way back down to the main road... Good times...

It was a while ago...... Hopefully a winch or two shows up to get back up the skid if you have to go that way. As i recall you could usually make the skid with a rear locker and at least 35's.
