My un named build
Well figured I'd post this here so it doesn't get deleted , here is the base of the idea 4 link rear 3 link front on a forunner frame with dual t cases and 5:29s on 38 body will be a chopped up forunner body with a cage but what needs to be thought out is the engine I'd kind of like to stay Toyota there's always the old 22r , 3.0 , 3.4 or the 7mge, other suggestions are welcome. What do you want this rig to do? Snow? Mud? Trails? A little bit of everything? A star performer, or a do everything ok but nothing outstanding?
Long distance?
3.4 for win if you want the best toyota engine available. The 3.0 and 7mge are comparable for output in stock form, and the 22r will leave you wishing you'd put anything under the hood other than a 22r.
The weak link is the 5.29 pinion - they get mighty small at that ratio. If you'd like a more powerful engine, stick with 4.88's or 4.56 for the strength. With the dual cases, you could get away with just 4.10's. Its not like you're driving it on the highway...

Thinking I may use the 3.0 since both of mine have been so reliable , and yeah I had that concern about the 5:29 pinyon especially under alot of torque this truck will most likely be just trailered but you never know for a little bit of everything mostly trails and mud

Re: My un named build
I have put my 5.29s thru hell, lots of 7000 rpm wheel stands slamming down full throttle climbing ledges with no issue. with that said i have like 30 horse to the rear wheels lol. my gearing is 110plus to 1 so there is some torque multiplication. fully loaded my rig might wiegh 2700 pounds with me in it. justin from sportsman light truck runs 39 iroks on fully loaded ifs width toys and 5.29s under his first gen bobbed toy so far no issues but the 5.29s are his weak point

The 4:88 in my runner now doesn't seem to give all the power I want that being said I'm fairly sure my cat and fuel filter are plugged

Re: My un named build
I run 4.88's behind my 3.0l and they are ok. Truck drives almost like stock, as the speedo dosen't even need correction with the 36's... I've never had an issue spinning all four tires in low range in first gear. Second gear gets a little ify if the mud is deep or traction is high. I can engage the doubler though and use all 5 gears at will with little issue, other than the added driveline slop. Its a typical toyota dog in high range though...
Ditch the cat, change the fuel filter, and put a decent air filter on it. The air filter makes a world of difference, at least on mine.

Don't be surprised if you break the fuel lines - be prepared for it. Mine broke, and I ended up changing them all the way back to the tank...
