Big Block Turbo Tow Rig?
My tow rig is an '81 GMC c/c 3500 4x4 sporting the best parts combo that GM produced, 454, sm465, Np205, D60, C14. The only downside is that the 454 is a turd in stock form, low compression, and a measly 230hp or less. I had the great idea of stuffing a turbo under the hood for some added oooomph during the long hill climbs when I get around to actually towing with it. Its not an offroad truck, so I could actually mount the turbo under the truck somewhere in the exhaust system, and then just pipe it forward and live with the turbo lag until it spools up. With the 4spd trans, and the 4.10 gears, there really shouldn't be much turbo lag once I start leaning into the go pedal...
More research needs to be done into turbo size, placement, and fuel delivery, intercooling, and what not, but it does seem like a valid idea...
Any thoughts?

I think to keep things affordable, I should probably consider propane as well, or at least dual fuel if I plan to tow any real distance with it... I would leave it setup to run 'pane all the time, but have the dual fuel option should I run out of fuel and need to limp it to a fuel station... I don't think a 20lb bbq bottle will take a loaded 1ton very far...

I would honestly stay away from the pane for a tow rig. Main issuse is propane fuel stations are getting fewer and farther between, and then when you find one nobody is "certified" to fill you. And the added weight and room of the monster tank your gonna need to feed that badboy when towing.

I figured that fuel stops would need a little more planning. I've ran propane before though and never had any issues finding somebody to fill the tank. Hell I can do it myself if they'll just unlock the pump and go look at my junk on the trailer... I just figured the cheap cost of propane would be a benefit, even at a 10% loss in mileage, that means I'm only saving 40% on the cost of fuel...
